LA’s finest, DJ Clifton aka Clifton Weaver (aka DJ Soft Touch) serves up a master class in psychedelic soundtrack soul for us…sixty sensational minutes of sixties and seventies rock and soul psych TV and film tracks from Roy Budd, Lalo Schifrin, Peter Cook, Isaac Hayes, Alan Price, George Harrison, Ike & Tina, Serge Gainsbourg, a rarity from the classic PBS children’s show “The Electric Company,” and more!
Clifton is tight behind the turntables in more ways than one. A sharp dresser with impeccable selections, he has showcased his singular style as a DJ at Southern California’s biggest parties for over a decade and remains one of the most sought-after selectors in California nightlife, including regular DJ gigs, Tuesdays at The Edmon in Hollywood, Saturdays at The Fable in Eagle Rock, and the monthly Soul Shakedown at Zebulon. Clifton also spent 11 years working crowds of phenomenal dancers at L.A.’s biggest soul and raw funk dance party, Funky Sole.
Clifton’s deep roots in Los Angeles’ soul community and superb taste in everything from funk to Bollywood, Afrobeat to ‘60s go-go and Britpop, have landed him gigs opening for Daptone Records legends such as Charles Bradley at The Getty, and setting the scene for Mayer Hawthorne, Adrian Younge, and Stones Throw’s Peanut Butter Wolf. As a member of Love Grenades, Clifton opened for Janelle Monae and another one of his bands, The Mercury Wheel, was backed by Nolan Porter. His most recent music project, The Violent Mindfield, released their new LP on the French label Disques Rogue.
Able to seamlessly transition between genres with an ear for anything soulful on vinyl or digital, Clifton has established himself as one of the premier DJs in California. Previous experience includes a multi-year residency at indie dance night Club Transistor and Club Underground. Clifton has taken his tunes on the road to the famed Sweater Funk in San Francisco, as well as New York and New Mexico.
